"Building on the dialogue between Ukrainian and Malawian leaders, I was honored to be received by President Lazarus Chakwera in Lilongwe,” Dmytro Kuleba wrote on social media on Monday.

Lilongwe is the capital and largest city of Malawi.

"We appreciate Malawi's firm and consistent stance on Russian aggression against Ukraine, as well as its support for the Peace Summit communique," Kuleba said.

"Ukraine is not only grateful; we also want to be helpful," he added. "We are aware of the severe impact of climate change on Malawi's food security."

Several African nations attended a conference on Ukraine organized by Switzerland in June, but they have generally hesitated to support Western initiatives aimed at isolating Russia, a key provider of energy and raw materials, according to Reuters.

Kuleba also said in his post that "Ukraine has decided to assist Malawi" as part of its Grain From Ukraine program.

According to the Ukrainian foreign ministry, Kuleba's visit to Africa focuses on "enhancing bilateral relations through mutual respect and shared interests."

Key topics include "the involvement of African nations in global efforts to achieve a fair peace for Ukraine and the world."

During his trip, Kuleba is also addressing the issues of supplying Ukrainian grain to the region and involving African companies in Ukraine’s reconstruction efforts, the Ukrainian foreign ministry said.
